Level 2 UAL Diploma in Art and Design (Fashion)

This UAL accredited course is designed to develop your creative and practical skills required to work in the fashion industry. Through research, skill-based workshops and experimentation with a range of techniques and materials, you will begin to develop your knowledge of a wide range of creative fashion techniques. The garments you create will be showcased in the end of year fashion show. Please note: This is a year-long course. It runs on Tuesdays, 09.30-16.00, and Wednesdays, 09.30-12.30

The course is open to all applicants.

You will gain a practical understanding of the fundamentals of fashion design, illustration, pattern construction and garment realisation. You will also develop skills in general art and design communication processes. In terms 1 and 2 the tutor will guide you through class exercises and projects under these headings: – Introduction to materials, processes and technical skills in fashion design – Introduction to contextual research in fashion design – Introduction to d

This course will run for one day and one morning per week making it ideal for anyone with existing work or family commitments. During the course you will develop and produce your portfolio which will include several finished designed pieces which will be showcased at the end of year fashion show. You will be taught by a fashion specialist, with technician support and supervision. As the course progresses, and your creative awareness and skills increase, you will be able to work in a self-d

We will provide you with one sketchbook and full use of all the equipment. You will be required to provide your own fabric and pattern paper for your experimentation activities and final garments. For your self-directed study a basic sewing kit is required e.g. fabric scissors, pencils, masking tape, sewing threads, needles, unpick, paper, pattern-cutting paper, tape measure (this list is not exhaustive). Your own basic art and drawing materials would also be useful to have. Other costs

To progress to the Level 3 UAL Diploma in Fashion (starting in September):
- Learners must be working at Level 1 English and maths.
- Have good levels of punctuality and attendance
- Achieved a merit on level 2 diploma in the subject area.
- Have produced a portfolio of work in the subject area.
