From 1 October 2026, our service is changing.
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has launched the Jobs and Careers Service (JCS). This is a new service which offers support and advice for jobs and careers.
Following the launch of this new service, we're making changes to the National Careers Service.
How the service is changing
As part of the changes, from 1 October 2026 the current face-to-face element of the National Careers Service will move over to the DWP. This means careers advice will be delivered through DWP careers advisers for adults and young people under 18 who are eligible.
Careers advice for young people in education will continue to be delivered through schools and colleges.
This website (the National Careers Service) will continue to remain live and offer information and digital tools to help people of all ages with their careers.
Our name is changing
From 1 October 2026, the National Careers Service will change its name to ‘Get careers information and advice’.
We’ve used guidance set out by the Government Digital Service (GDS) to create our new name, and we've tested it with users of the service.
Our URL will remain the same and all existing links to the site will continue to work. We might make further changes in the future, as we adapt our service to our users' needs.
The look and feel of our website is changing
From 1 October 2026, we’re updating the look and feel of our website. We’re moving away from our existing National Careers Service brand and are aligning more closely with the GOV.UK brand guidelines. The website will continue to work in the same way, but will feature the more familiar GOV.UK brand.
What we still offer
You'll still be able to get advice and information on this website, for example you can:
- explore careers and find out about different job sectors, roles and requirements
- discover your skills and find out which jobs and sectors would suit you the most
- find a course near you or consider a training opportunity
DWP has launched their new Jobs and Careers Service
The new Jobs and Careers Service (JCS) features the following tools:
Through a digital, telephony and appointment-based service, the Jobs and Careers Service can provide support if you're aged 18 or over.
For example, the service can help you when:
- you’ve applied for jobs, but do not feel like you’re getting anywhere
- you want to change jobs, but you’re not sure how to do that
- you spend time looking at jobs, but rarely apply
- you need support standing out from other applicants
If you're under 18 years old and are not in education, employment or training, you may still be eligible for the help offered by the Jobs and Careers Service.
How you get additional support is changing
From 1 October 2026, the way you get additional support relating to jobs and careers advice will change. Instead of contacting the National Careers Service, your options will depend on your age and your situation.
As part of the changes to the National Careers Service website, you’ll no longer be able to chat online with us, contact us by email, ask us to call you or send us post.
If you’re under 18 years old and still in school or training, you’ll need to speak to the careers adviser in your school, college or training provision to get careers guidance. If you’re not sure who that is, speak to a teacher.
You can also contact the Jobs and Careers Service to speak to a careers adviser if you’re under 18 years old and not in education, employment or training.
If you’re 18 or older, you can contact the Jobs and Careers Service to get support from a dedicated careers adviser.
