Discover the learning experience and opportunities you can expect from this course.

If you're returning to education and aiming for a degree in Engineering, Chemistry, or Physics, the Access to Higher Education Diploma (Science) – Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry Pathway is a focused route to university. With this course, you’ll gain the essential UCAS points and academic preparation needed to study at institutions across the UK. There is a national shortage of skilled professionals in these subjects, both in education and industry. This creates exciting opportunities for future careers, including incentives such as the Government’s £25,000 tax-free bursary for physics graduates training to teach. Whether you see your future in engineering, scientific research, or education, this pathway is designed to help you get there. You’ll study Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry, building both subject knowledge and core academic skills. The course is timetabled over two days a week, with additional time needed for independent study and assignments. If your ambitions lie more within the health sciences or biology-related fields, you may want to consider our alternative science or medical pathways. To enrol, you’ll ideally have GCSE grade 4 in English and Maths (or equivalent Level 2 qualifications), though we may consider exceptions depending on your intended university course. It's also recommended that you have a clear idea of the degree you want to pursue, so you can tailor your learning journey. The diploma is accredited by AIM Qualifications and Assessment Group, and you may be eligible for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover your course fees. If you progress to university and complete your degree, you won’t have to repay the loan. Upon successful completion, you can move onto one of the following Foundation Degrees at University Centre South Devon: FdSc Animal Science FdSc Assistant Practitioner FdSc Nursing Associate FdSc Hearing Aid Audiology Visit www.ucsd.ac.uk or email university@southdevon.ac.uk for more information about your progression options
