One of the most recognised engineering disciplines, mechanical engineers focus on the design, development, manufacture, installation and maintenance of systems and devices which support the activities of multiple industry sectors, including automotive, aerospace and healthcare. A current shortfall in the number of skilled mechanical engineers means that there are excellent career opportunities so if you are interested in how things are designed, manufactured and made to work, this course could be for you. Our BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering degree starts at Level 4 with a series of modules covering the core principles of engineering before moving on to subject specialisms at Levels 5 and 6, Candidates who already have a relevant Level 4 qualification are invited to join the programme at Level 5 and can complete the degree in just two years rather than the usual three. Opportunities to explore software and practical subject areas such as computer aided design, controls and simulation and computational fluid dynamics are embedded within the modules to enable a blend of practical and theoretical experiences to enhance employability. Many of our graduates are now employed by major companies such as EDF Energy, Westinghouse Springfields, Airbus, NIC, GCE and Ford Motor Company as mechanical design, production, project or research and development engineers. Industry Accreditation This course is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) on behalf of the Engineering Council for the purposes of fully meeting the academic requirement for registration as an Incorporated Engineer and partly meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered Engineer.

Most courses are assessed via a combination of coursework, exams and practical assessments. Exams are formal, timed written assessments, carried out in a controlled environment and overseen by one or more invigilators. Coursework differs from exams in that it is usually non-timed and carried out independently. Practical assessments involve observation of your practical skills and competencies by a trained assessor. Please contact us for further details about the course.
The College is well known for its friendly and supportive environment. We have dedicated tutors to help you achieve your learning goals. We also have an experienced team of advisers who can provide additional support along with advice and guidance on a whole range of issues, free of charge. The important thing is that you make the most of your time with us and if we can help with that in any way, we will. Please contact us for further details about the course.

The UK has a significant shortfall of suitably skilled and qualified engineers. We have well-developed working relationships with a wide range of Engineering employers, through which we help and support learners into sustainable employment. Some of our previous graduates work at companies such as EDF Energy, Westinghouse (Springfields Fuels Ltd), BAE Systems and Airbus.
