Higher National Certificates are specialist vocational programmes linked to professional body requirements and national occupational standards where appropriate, with a strong work related emphasis. This qualification builds a strong foundation in the key concepts and practical skills required by employers in the building services sector and are recognised nationally by employers and professional bodies. There is a strong emphasis on HVAC and electrical building services design alongside the development of requisite knowledge and understanding of building services. Modules include: Unit 4 - Construction Environment Unit 8 - Mathematics for Construction Unit 6 - Digital Application for Construction Unit 3 - Science & Materials Unit 15 - Principles of Alternative Energy Unit 18 - Principles of Electrical Design & Installation Unit 22 - Scientific Principles for Building Services Engineers Unit 1 - Construction Design Project Modules are subject to change depending on curriculum updates, staffing availability, and industry or awarding-body requirements. Typical lessons will involve research-based activities, individual and group projects, practical exercises and presentations. Students will usually wish to purchase textbooks although there are extensive library and online resources available.
