Tailoring and Advanced Fashion Production

This course will consolidate the skills gained in the earlier tailoring course and you will also produce a bespoke tailored jacket. It will cover a range of tailoring techniques and by the end of the 12-week course, you will have gained a range of transferable specialist skills that will allow you to design and create quality garments that fit perfectly. You will also produce your own bespoke tailored jacket. To get the most out of the course, you will need intermediate sewing skills and there is an expectation that you will be able to do some of the work in your own time.

No prior qualifications are necessary for this course, however to get the most out of it you should have intermediate level sewing skills.

This course is part of the community learning programme and as such is not subject to any formal assessment.

A basic sewing/pattern making kit will be required and there will be some additional material costs associated with the course. Pattern paper and calico for toiles can be purchased through the College.

Most courses are assessed via a combination of coursework, exams and practical assessments. Exams are formal, timed written assessments, carried out in a controlled environment and overseen by one or more invigilators. Coursework differs from exams in that it is usually non-timed and carried out independently. Practical assessments involve observation of your practical skills and competencies by a trained assessor.

This short Tailoring Production course is the second of two that will guide you through the process of designing and making your own tailored jacket. The course will take you through to the final bespoke product and allow you to refine your skills and techniques working in fine quality cloth. There is the option to progress to degree-level study, subject to specific entry criteria.
