The forklift truck operations qualification level 2 offers learners valuable knowledge in health & safety at work and productive working practices. Learners are given the option to choose one of four machines to be trained on during this course, dependant on their training needs, and employment goals. The choices are Counterbalance Forklift Truck, Reach Truck ,Telescopic Handler or M.E.W.P.s (Mobile Elevated Work Platforms) which includes both the scissor lift and the boom if required. Learners are required to pass a theory and practical test to be able to claim the full qualification. Upon successful completion of the Level 2 course, we also offer learners additional 1 day courses as add ons. These are: First aid, Mobile Scaffold (PASMA) and Iosh working safely to enhance the learners CV's and assist them in securing employment or progressing within a current role. There are opportunities to gain more than one machine dependant on the pathway chosen, and the learner would enquire about this on site. Unemployed learners will progress on to a Level 2 course after completing the Level 1 Warehousing course. This will ensure that the learner has progressed to achieve sufficient knowledge and practical skills to prepare for the workplace in this sector. The units in this qualification are: Conforming to general health, safety and welfare in the workplace, Conforming to productive working practices in the workplace, Preparing and operating (chosen machine) to lift and transfer loads in the workplace.

Entry requirements are that learners are 19 years and over should be reasonably fit with good observational skills. . If learners are on medication which restricts them from driving or using machinery this will prevent them from being enrolled. Similarly if medication is for epilepsy, a Doctors letter may be required before enrolment is completed. A basic level of literacy and numeracy is required, and support is available for learners where necessary. Learners with special requirements are encouraged to enrol and we will make reasonable adjustments to accommodate individuals.

If training is done at one of our training areas in Tyneside or Teesside, we will provide all machinery and a simulated work areas as well as testing areas and classrooms. Personal protective equipment will also be provided

Methods of assessment for this qualification are mostly via recorded or written observation after training, questioning, reflective accounts. Witness Testimony is also acceptable. Learners will also be trained to national standards on the chosen plant/machinery, and this will include a practical test as well as theory test.
