Applicants must have 4 GCSEs (Grade 4/5) including English Language and maths. Alternatively, you will be considered if you have achieved a relevant Level 2 qualification along with English and maths. Entry is subject to a satisfactory reference and interview. Entry decisions will be discretionary at interview. You will also need to complete a DBS check, attend an interview and provide satisfactory references.
You will study the NCFE CACHE Technical Level 3 Certificate in Childcare and Education in the first year. Successful completion of the Certificate means you may progress into the second year, where you will complete the Diploma (EYE). You will attend placement for two days per week which will support the studies you do at College. Placement allows you to develop your skills and knowledge working with the age ranges 0-2, 2-3 year olds, 3-5 year olds and 5-7 year olds in different childcare settings including nurseries, reception classes, pre-schools, special educational needs settings.
Through a combination of classroom based lectures, presentations, workshops, discussions and practical work experience placements.
All students working with children will need to have a Disclosure and Barring Security Check. You will also need to provide costs for text books, a uniform for work placement. A placement uniform will be available to purchase from college.
To pass this qualification you will need to pass all units. All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods, and graded A* - D. You must also complete an Extended Assessment Task which is externally marked. You will undertake a minimum of 750 hours in work placements over the 2 years, as an important part of the assessment process involves evaluating skills in real working situations.
The professional status of Early Years Educator status enables you to work in many different early years roles, such as, Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, or Nursery Manager. You may choose to progress to HE, including our HND in Advanced Practice in Work with Children and Families, or a Foundation Degree in Early Years Services. You may also progress to degree programmes such as Initial Teacher Training (QTS), Early Years Teacher (EYT) or a BA in Early Year Childhood Studies.
