This qualification is intended for those who want to gain the knowledge and abilities that will enable you to gain the underlying knowledge of electrical installation. The Level 3 qualification is aimed at those who have already completed the Level 2 qualification and therefore have some knowledge of the industry. This qualification is for those who want to work as electricians in the building services engineering sector. This qualification does not make learners fully qualified electricians.

You will be need to have completed the Level 2 Diploma in electrical installation. There is no direct entry onto this programme through GCSEs. You will be required to attend an interview at the college for the courses and we will request a school or college report. If you have not achieved a C grade or above in English or maths, you will as part of your course be required to work towards this as part of your study programme.

This is a practical and theory based course, where you will learn through underpinning theory sessions. Practical assignments are also carried out in the college site area where you will learn key principles. This course is supported by individual and group tutorial sessions. The qualification will help you gain an understanding of the skills required within the electrotechnical sector. You will cover compulsory aspects such as: • Planning and overseeing electrical work activities • Principles of Electrical Science • Electrical design and installation practices and procedures • Principles of inspection, testing and commissioning electrical systems • Inspecting, testing and commissioning electrical systems • Electrical system fault diagnosis and rectification • Requirements for electrical installations * These units may be subject to change and are only representative at this point, however we keep these as up to date as possible. *You will be required to participate in trips and visits which may incur costs which you be notified of in a timely manner.

Most teaching and learning is workshop-based. Students will be assessed by short practical and related knowledge assessments on each related unit of the course. To gain this qualification, candidates must successfully achieve the following assessments: > One externally set, externally moderated assignment > One externally set, externally

This qualification can lead to careers in Construction such as:
> Electrician
> Electrical industry careers

It may be possible to progress to an advanced Apprenticeship. However, you will not be a fully qualified electrician with this level 3 qualification.

You could transfer to a City and Guilds Level 3 Electrical apprenticeship, leaving only the NVQ and End Point assessment to complete, and is therefore a highly technician and widely recognised qualification within the industry.
