UAL Extended Level 3 Diploma in Performing Arts (Production Arts) The Technical Theatre Arts course provides students with excellent learning opportunities that not only equips them with the skills to pursue a professional career within the performing arts industry but also give them the foundation for higher education and training. Whilst our philosophy is very much a ‘hands on’ approach and the learning is delivered through a realistic working environment where students take part in practical exercises, simulated work environments and fulfilling technical roles on theatre productions in the schools theatres. We maintain the learning environment through the development of *log books in a range of skills which are an essential part of the course development and the students formative assessment. The course teaches technical, creative and management skills and places an emphasis on students obtaining as wide a range of skills and experience as possible during the two year course. Teaching staff have all come from a professional background in the industry and the school has superbly equipped theatres, studio spaces and workshops. The course maintains strong links and partnerships within the industry and is sponsored by many leading companies such as PRG, Britannia Row and Function One.

Find out what qualifications and skills you will need for this course.

You will need to be dedicated, organised and a good timekeeper as a lot of the practical work you do will take place on productions outside of school hours. You should also have achieved a reasonable level in GCSE English and maths, as elements of the course are writing based. While not mandatory, some theatre experience in any field would be useful.
