A LEVEL HISTORY A

This intellectually demanding course is an excellent way to develop highly sought after and transferable skills. These include being able to effectively communicate complex ideas, the ability to research, analyse and evaluate information, and the capacity to make substantiated judgements. The world around us has been influenced by and is a result of what has happened in the past. History incorporates all kinds of disciplines, from economics to geography, sociology to politics and many more. As a student of history, youre not simply analysing past events but building your understanding of the world around you. If you are to understand the war in Ukraine, you first need an understanding of the Cold War and the Russian Revolution. To understand modern race relation in the U.S. you first need an understanding of the fight for freedom and the Civil Rights campaign.

Grade 5 or above at GCSE and 8 GCSEs at Grade 5 or above including English and Maths

You need an interest in History, as lots of reading and research is required. You need to enjoy reading, writing and arguing your points, as essay writing and debating are a big part of the course. History provides you with the skills to analyse and make strong arguments, debating the importance of different events. It gives you the opportunity to investigate and make judgements, building your extended writing skills. These are key life skills, useful for all jobs.

Options for degree study in History, Law, English and Philosophy. The skills gained from studying history provide the ideal building blocks for any career as well as the mental framework to debate, argue and form convincing judgments. A History related degree is useful for several careers, including teaching, librarianship, banking and commerce, the law, publishing, museums and art galleries and a wide variety of social work.
