This apprenticeship is open to ‘in-house’ security operatives (direct employees) who usually do not need a Security Industry Authority (SIA) licence to provide security services and for employees who work for sub-contractors, who are providing security services and do need an SIA licence.

Where an apprentice has an SIA licence, assessment of current competence, through RPL & experience, forms part of the Initial Assessment process, ensuring apprentice is on the right programme. Entry requirements will be a matter for individual employers, (own security vetting requirements). The CViT Operative option and Mobile Patrol Security Operative option must possess a valid driving licence.
English and Maths English and maths qualifications form a mandatory part of all apprenticeships and must be completed before an apprentice can pass through gateway. Emergency First Aid at Work (regulated) Level: 3. Over the 12-14 month apprenticeship, we will help you to develop significant new knowledge, skills and behaviours in subject areas such as: Communication, Legislation, Equipment and technology, Personal Development, Health and Safety, Risk and Emergencies, Situational Awareness, Organisational Operations. We will embed your organisations key values and standards into these areas, ensuring what you learn is applicable to you and your employer. You will be required to select one of 4 pathways at the start of your journey based on your role and development needs. The identified pathways are: Operational Security Operative, Cash and Valuables in Transit Operative, Mobile Security Patrol Operative, Security Control Room Operative

Assessment methods include; Skills Scans, Off the Job, Classroom learning, Observations, Projects & Onsite Activities, Professional Discussions, Individual Learning Plans, Block tests and a Mock End Point Assessment The employer and SfS will agree when the apprentice is ready for the EPA. The assessment has 3 components: Knowledge test, Practical skills test - observation and a Professional discussion
A Professional Security Operative is seen as an entry level for the security professional career pathway. For operatives interested in supervision and management, the existing Level 3 Security First Line Manager would be the ideal career progression. Operatives with an interest in learning and development can progress into security training while others might prefer the account manager route or any other support role within a security business.
