Aromatherapy Level 3 Diploma (VTCT)

This qualification has been designed to prepare you for a career as an Aromatherapist. You will be studying the properties of 42 essential oils in addition to learning about a range of carrier oils. You will learn how to select suitable oils for your clients, the principles of blending, and methods of use. Furthermore, you will learn about anatomy, physiology and pathology and business practice for complementary therapies.You may also choose to complete an additional unit which will develop your knowledge and understanding of healthy eating and wellbeing for the complementary therapy client.To achieve this qualification you must carry out and document evidence of at least 60 treatments/case studies. This will take place over a period of time and will document how the treatments are benefitting the client. There are two exams for Anatomy and Physiology - the other units are assessed in class.

A good standard of English at GCSE grade A-C / 4-9 is preferable, as is a previous body massage qualification. It is also desirable to have related qualifications at level 2 and 3 and to have strong interpersonal and communication skills.

The units included in the qualification are: Principles and practice of complementary therapies Business practice for complementary therapies Knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathology for complementary therapies Providing aromatherapy for complementary therapies Healthy eating and wellbeing for the complementary therapy client

You will need a college approved massage uniform and a student text book - order forms for both are available at interview with a negotiated college discount from our suppliers. Books will also be discussed at the first lesson. You will also need the usual stationary of pens, paper and two A4 folders. One will hold your course notes and the other will be used for your portfolio of evidence for treatments.

You will be assessed in the classroom. There are continual practical assessments, written assessment questions, internal and external written exams, case studies, and a portfolio of evidence for your practical treatments.

On completion of this qualification you could seek employment as an Aromatherapist or set up in a self-employed capacity. You may also choose to undertake further study in complementary therapies such as massage or reflexology.
