Award in Support Work in Schools

This course aims to give candidates an overview of life as a Teaching Assistant in Schools. This qualification prepares learners for further learning and training whilst developing an understanding of the teaching and learning environment in a school setting. It covers areas such as how to support the well-being of a child or young person and child and young person development. Whilst on the course learners will be introduced to the importance of safeguarding and Equality and Diversity within the classrooms, the different types of abuse and being alert to signs and symptoms.

There are no specific qualifications required to sign up to this course, however learners do need to be unemployed and in receipt of benefits. This qualification is suitable for learners aged 18 and above (on 31st August 2020).

On completion of this qualification, you may work within schools or continue with developing your knowledge onto an accredited level 3 qualification. There will be support to work with recruitment agencies to develop your work experience which will help you to decide on the age range of young people you want to work with.
