Five GCSEs including English Language, Mathematics and Science at grade 4 or above.
This course is a mix of practical and theory based learning with a focus on giving you a well-rounded and detailed knowledge of the sports sector. You’ll cover topics such as applied coaching skills, sports development, sports psychology, nutrition for physical performance, anatomy and physiology in sport, school sport delivery, research project in sport, careers in the sport and active leisure industry. You will be timetabled over four days, with time to study independently and to take part in enrichment-based activities that run across College. You will have your Wednesday afternoons free to be involved with one or more of the College teams. The course will involve you working on different tasks and activities which will go towards your final assessments. You will work through a continuous programme of assignments, class activities, practical tasks, discussions, presentations, written reports, voluntary work, organising events and coaching. Each assessment will be graded against the unit criteria and from there you will get an overall grade ranging from Pass, Merit and Distinction.
In the future you could pursue a career in PE teaching, sports coaching, sports development, sports management and the leisure industry, amongst others. You may progress onto Level 4 courses at HSDC or Apprenticeships. A large number of our students will move onto university to study degree programmes in PE teaching, sports coaching and development, sport and exercise science, health and fitness, sports psychology and sports studies.
