Three GCSEs including English Language or Mathematics at grade 3 or above or successful completion of a Level 1 Diploma course with Functional Skills. Those with GCSE grade 2 profile are recommended to pursue the Level 1 Diploma in Uniformed Services course or an alternative Level 1 course.
The course focuses on commitment, determination and respect. You must have the desire to represent your country, and the willingness to develop personal and social skills necessary for a life in the public or armed services. You will take part in regular fitness testing, including a military swim test, to assess your progress and set new goals. Our teaching team has a broad mix of skills which includes former service men and women. This hugely relevant experience combined with skilled and highly qualified teaching staff, provides a foundation for exciting and engaging sessions. The course will be taught mainly as practical with supported classroom work and outdoor activities. All work will be continuously assessed using video and photographic evidence to support effective feedback. Google Classroom provides easy access to resources and relevant course or tutor-related information. Practical and peer observations in conjunction with mock professional and peer interviews allow your progress to be monitored throughout the whole year. A portfolio is produced to achieve a final grade.
Successful completion of the course will offer progression to the NCFE Level 3 Uniformed Services or another suitable Level 3 course. You may wish to apply for entry to the armed forces or public services. You may also want an alternative career or Apprenticeship in another field, which can be supported by the HSDC Careers & Employability Team.
