Product Design is a vibrant and dynamic subject that encourages students to take a broad view of design and technology. It helps develop students' capacity to design and make products and to appreciate the complex relations between design, materials, manufacture and marketing. The subject requires initiative, creativity and determination, but most importantly problem solving and the desire to develop better solutions for consumers. Students that have studied Product Design have gone on to a range of destinations after Sixth Form such as; studying Aeronautical Engineering at Southampton University or to higher level apprenticeships at Jaguar Land Rover and National Rail. AQA Design and Technology: Product Design • Unit 1: Paper 1 – Core Technical Principles (2 hours) 30% • Unit 2: Paper 2 – Specialist knowledge, design and making principle (1 ½ hours) 20% • Unit 3: Paper 3 – Practical application – (45 hours project work - 50%) non-exam assessment
