In a world that moves fast, leather craft offers a grounding and rewarding creative experience. This beginner friendly bag making course is designed for those who are new to leatherwork as well as those with some experience in pattern making or other forms of handcraft. Over the term, you'll learn the essential building blocks of bag making — from identifying and selecting suitable leathers to drafting your own paper pattern from scratch. We'll begin with a simple tote bag design to establish core skills, then progress to a more advanced tote featuring gussets and personalized details. Throughout the course, you'll be guided through professional bag-making techniques and finishing methods used in the industry. You'll need to be comfortable handling a range of cutting tools for working with thicker leathers. Prior experience in pattern cutting (for garments or similar projects) or other detailed hand-making skills will be helpful but not required. By the end of the course, you'll have developed the confidence and knowledge to design and construct your own beautifully crafted leather tote bag — a timeless piece made by your own hands.
