You will complete an initial assessment before enrolment to assess your English, maths and digital skills and confirm that the course is appropriate for you. Some existing IT knowledge or experience would be beneficial but is not essential.
You will develop the knowledge and practical skills needed to support computer systems and users. You will learn about computer hardware and software, installing and configuring systems, diagnosing and resolving technical problems, maintaining ICT systems, networking and security, and providing effective technical support to users.
You will learn through tutor-led sessions, practical computer-based activities, demonstrations and hands-on exercises, supported by individual and collaborative learning. You will have opportunities to apply your knowledge and technical skills to practical tasks and use an Individual Learning Plan to set goals, monitor your progress and record your achievements.
Please bring a pen and notepad. If the course is delivered online or through blended learning, a suitable device can be loaned to you where required.
You will be assessed throughout the course using a range of methods to demonstrate your knowledge and practical competence. Assessment may include practical tasks, observations, written work and other evidence of your technical skills. You must meet the required assessment criteria to achieve the qualification.
On successful completion, you can progress to higher-level IT qualifications, apprenticeships or employment in ICT and technical support roles. You will also have developed practical problem-solving, communication, teamwork, customer service and technical troubleshooting skills, helping you work confidently and effectively when supporting users and resolving ICT problems.
