You will learn how to identify and correct spelling, punctuation and grammar errors, spot missing or repeated words, improve sentence structure, check subject-verb agreement and use effective proofreading techniques. You will develop strategies for reviewing written work, improving accuracy and applying proofreading skills to workplace and Functional Skills writing tasks.
You will learn online through tutor-led explanations, group discussions and practical proofreading activities. You will work with authentic workplace and Functional Skills materials, complete error-spotting exercises, use proofreading checklists and practise reviewing and improving your own writing and the writing of others.
You should attend all sessions and actively participate in discussions and proofreading activities. You will be expected to complete practice tasks and review your progress regularly through your Individual Learning Plan.
There is no exam. Your tutor will assess your progress through practical proofreading activities, written tasks, class participation and the achievement of your individual learning goals. You will complete a final timed writing and proofreading task to demonstrate the skills you have developed during the course.
