Electrical and electronic engineering is one of the world's oldest engineering disciplines and has been responsible for some of science's key technological advances thanks to developments in the fields of electricity, electronics and electromagnetism. Today, it is increasingly oriented towards IT and computing, embedded systems, robotics, tech and energy to achieve optimisation, simplicity and reliability in the new devices of the 21st century. Our BEng (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering pathway takes into account the changing face of engineering and will provide you with a thoroughly up-to-date set of modules. The programme consists of core common modules at Level 4 such as engineering mathematics and science, computer-aided design and professional engineering management. After you have mastered these foundational subjects, you will explore advanced, practical subject topics such as microprocessors and microcontrollers, control and simulation, embedded systems, digital signal and image processing. Embedded within the modules are hands-on learning opportunities and many innovative activities in a blend of practical and theoretical experiences to enhance employability. Although the programme starts at Level 4, suitably qualified candidates with a relevant Level 4 qualification can enter the programme at Level 5/Year 2 and complete the programme in just two years. Electrical and Electronic Engineering is an exciting specialism which adapts easily to many engineering areas and offers fantastic career opportunities for those interested in technology and innovation. Many of our graduates are now employed by major companies such as EDF Energy, Westinghouse Springfields, Airbus, Leyland Trucks and PACCAR, NIC, GE, and Ford Motor Company as design, production, project or research and development engineers.

Most courses are assessed via a combination of coursework, exams and practical assessments. Exams are formal, timed written assessments, carried out in a controlled environment and overseen by one or more invigilators. Coursework differs from exams in that it is usually non-timed and carried out independently. Practical assessments involve observation of your practical skills and competencies by a trained assessor. Please contact us for further details about the course.
The College is well known for its friendly and supportive environment. We have dedicated tutors to help you achieve your learning goals. We also have an experienced team of advisers who can provide additional support along with advice and guidance on a whole range of issues, free of charge. The important thing is that you make the most of your time with us and if we can help with that in any way, we will. Please contact us for further details about the course.

The UK has a significant shortfall of suitably skilled and qualified engineers across all engineering disciplines. This, coupled with the fact that a generation of engineers will be retiring over the next five years, means that the job market remains buoyant with significantly higher than average graduate starting salaries and exceptional opportunities for progression.
