Studying Food and Beverage Service will increase your practical skills and enable you to acquire more knowledge, techniques and training in the Hospitality Service. This practical programme provides an excellent foundation for a career in the Catering Industry. You will also learn modern table settings, bar work in the Steel House Bistro and learning serving procedures, which will provide you will with the relevant skills and experience to enable you to collate evidence required for your portfolio.

A variety of learning methods will be used including independent study, group work, practical assessments to support competency and multiple choice exam paper based examinations for each chosen unit.

Front of house shirts, aprons and ties are provided but trousers and shoes need to be purchased.

All units are internally assessed. Assessment enables your workplace practice to provide evidence for individual units as well as the whole qualification. Methods of assessment could include: Direct observation of practice Products of work Verbal, written and multiple choice exam questions Professional discussion The qualification will be pass or refer and all the assessment criteria of the chosen units must be achieved in order to obtain a pass.

Students satisfactorily completing the course can readily progress to an additional NVQ 2 course, e.g. L2 Professional Cookery and Level 3 Hospitality Supervision and Leadership
