This is a two year study programme which is equivalent to 3 A Levels, however a one year option is also available which is equivalent to 1.5 A Levels. Both programme years will accrue UCAS points should your chosen progression route be a UK university. Studying Programming and App Development will prepare you for a career in the IT industry as you will develop practical skills and knowledge of programming, software engineering and app development, whilst combining essential project management skills. This includes programming concepts, game programming, cyber security, data analysis, and creating websites and mobile and desktop apps. You may also have the opportunity to work on these projects for external clients, gaining valuable real-world experience. Once you have completed the initial introductory units which are assessed by exams, you will then have the opportunity to take part in practical coding projects. Where possible, these will have some involvement with clients external to the college. For instance, we have been involved in creating mobile apps and web pages for local businesses and voluntary groups. This will not only give you coding sills, but teach you how to manage projects successfully. Feedback from Universities and employers is that those who have completed this course are highly proficient in these skills. As part of your course, you will take part in a week’s work experience. This will give you the opportunity to extend further the skills you have learned at college and on live briefs with employers. Software development is a lucrative, creatively fulfilling and in demand career path, in which you will help shape the future across all areas of industry and commerce, as well as leisure and entertainment.
