There are no formal entry requirements for the Level 2 course; however, students must be 16 years of age.

This course is both practical and theory based which can include: Planning and monitor feeding Anatomy and physiology Animal behaviour and communication Promoting animal health Animal handling and safe working. There are regular trips to other animal collections to further student knowledge of other species and how they carry out husbandry practices. In previous years, students have been involved in breeding programmes and hatched chickens, ducks, and turkey eggs.

There is some theory work, exams, and practical work. Students will complete the course with either a pass, merit, or distinction. Teachers will be taking photos and videos of students' practical work that they do as evidence in their folders.
