This course is open to all students considering Advanced Level courses. Students do not need to have studied Government & Politics at GCSE. Good literacy skills are required to enable students to read widely and express ideas clearly. Grade 6 or above in English Language is required as a prerequisite.

Students will study: democracy and participation, political parties, electoral systems, voting behaviour and the media. This unit will also include the core topics for the Political Ideas unit of the course (conservatism, liberalism and socialism.) Written examination: 2 hours 33⅓ % of the qualification Component 2: UK Government Students will study: the constitution, parliament, Prime Minister and executive and the relationships between the branches of government. This unit also includes the non-core option for the Political Ideas unit of the course (feminism). Written examination: 2 hours 33⅓ % of the qualification Component 3: US Comparative Politics Students will study: the US Constitution and federalism, US congress, US presidency, US Supreme Court, democracy and participation, civil rights.
