Cost description Apprentices pay no cost to training, are employed for 30 hours per week minimum and paid the Apprenticeship NMW (many employers do pay more). Employers of Apprentices aged 19+ are required to co-invest 5% of the main funding value.

A Hairdressing Standard apprenticeship level 2 is typically delivered over 22 months. Applicants do not require experience however, we will take prior experience into account. Employed for a minimum of 30 hours, 20% of your paid working time will be dedicated to training of new skills, in the workplace or at our City Centre salons. The apprentice will develop skills during the ‘practical period’ of training in the workplace and Training School. At the Gateway stage the employer, apprentice and provider will agree the apprentice is ready to undertake End Point Assessment. Independent assessment will complete the apprenticeship awarding Pass or Distinction. Apprentice, employer and provider partnership is essential to success. Regular reviews of progress and engagement support training and skills development by visiting the workplace to inform and agree targets and achievement. Training is individually tailored, we offer flexible training routes to support apprentice and employer requirements.

On completion of this qualification you will be able to shampoo and condition hair, cut hair using a range of techniques, style and finish hair to create a variety of looks, and colour and lighten hair for ladies and men. You will be able to work with all hair types ranging from straight hair to very curly, wiry hair. You will also be able to carry out consultations with clients, demonstrate the professionalism, values, behaviours, communication skills and safe working practices associated with your role and be able to work without supervision to a high level of precision, with exceptional client care skills.

The apprenticeship is day release to our Training School where on 3 salon floors, you will be guided and supported by Educators with current and good sector skills, many specialists in what they do. You must fulfil 20% of your working week developing and learning new skills. learning will be supported by blended learning/ online resource materials where you can research and reflect upon your learning as you work in the salon. (minimum 30 hours per week)

Progression may take you to Level 3 Advanced and Creative Hair Professionals on a pathway through salon life, management or ownership of a business. You may progression in Education as an educator or beyond, the qualifications will also allow you to move into associated skills within hairdressing: television and theatre, specialist skills such as extensions or hair systems. Your skills are also transferable demonstrating to other employers of your suitability to work in other sectors.
