The HND in Fashion and Footwear Design is a creative and vocationally relevant course equivalent to the first two years of a BA (Hons) degree. It prepares you for a design and manufacture career across the fashion and footwear industries. The course develops professional design and manufacturing skills as well as offering opportunities for research and analysis in related specialist subjects. The course team plan to work closely with several leading Fashion retailers and Footwear manufacturers which support the delivery of the programme. Networking and liaising with industry contacts is an integral part of the course. Design briefs offer creative challenges through developing illustration skills, graphic presentation, and 3D manufacturing. You will explore specialist garment production and footwear manufacturing sector skills, gaining an insight into tailoring, garment/shoe pattern cutting and garment /shoe construction. Based on full cohort recruitment, students can expect approximately 12 to 14 hours of timetabled sessions per week. You will join a community of approx. 400 undergraduates across several creative disciplines. Staff have a wealth of industry expertise and practice within the creative sector.

Educational trips are not compulsory but encouraged as part of your experience. Previous students have paid up to 450 for an overseas trip (Previous excursions include Paris, Milan and London) You should expect to spend approximately 100 per year on art

You can top up to a full degree by joining the final year of our BA (Hons) Professional Studies (Creative Industries) following successful completion of this course. You may also apply to other universities to top up on related degrees. Careers are varied and range from costume assistant for stage, TV, and film, to freelances shoe or fashion designer, cutter and maker. Opportunities also exist in buying, marketing and retail sectors of each industry.
