Students should have completed their GCSE courses and taken their examinations. Students must be 16 years of age.

Health & Safety, Range of carpentry techniques( halving joints, housing joints, mortice and tenon joints, angled halving joints) Range of plumbing tasks (bending copper pipe, soldering copper pipe, jointing pipe, draining down and refitting radiators, installing a toilet and basin Range of bricklaying tasks (constructing a brick wall, constructing block walling, constructing half brick return corners, constructing cavity walls Range of electrical tasks (wiring a plug, installing 1 & 2 way lighting circuits, constructing a PVC wiring circuit, threading and joining conduit) Range of landscaping tasks (laying block paving, setting out and laying gravel paths) Students will develop their technical knowledge and learn new vocabulary. As a trades' person students will practise using a tape measure and a range of different levels to confirm work is straight. Students will problem solve and consider different ways to complete a construction job, break down complicated installations so students know what materials, what tools are needed to complete the task

This course is assessed through a combination of practical tasks and short written tests

This course is suitable for students who would like to pursue a career in the construction industry but are unsure of which trade they would like to study. This qualification will allow students to develop their construction knowledge and try a range of different trades such as plumbing, carpentry, bricklaying, electrical installation and landscaping skills.
