The RSL Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma for Music Practitioners (Performing) provides an excellent opportunity for singers and musicians to develop their practical musicianship and creativity in conjunction with units which provide a strong foundation to progress to higher education and develop a portfolio career.

General entry requirements: Grade 4 in English Language and Maths together with 3 other GCSE grades at grade 4 or above is the minimum requirement to enter Hillview Sixth Form. SUBJECT SPECIFIC CRITERIA: Grade 5 in GCSE Music (or equivalent). The ability to read music notation and sing/play an instrument to Grade 5 level, or above is required. An APS of 4.25 or above.

Students will study Music as a practical, intellectual and creative subject, covering areas such as performing and composition. Students will explore a wide range of different types of music over the two years including vocal music, instrumental music, music for film, popular music, jazz and fusion. Component 1: Music Performance Techniques Component 2: Solo or Ensemble Performance Skills Optional Units covering a range of topics such as: composition, classical music, music in the community, marketing and performance. Assessment: all units are internally assessed and learners are encouraged to make maximum use of practical activities and work experience. Students are assessed in the following areas: Application of knowledge and understanding Development of practical and technical skills Personal development for occupational roles Application of generic skills

There are many university and music college courses available. Music students can progress onto a wide range of careers including performing, composing, teaching, music therapy, librarianship, publishing and broadcasting.
