The purpose of the two-year, part-time Higher National Certificate in Building Services Engineering (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) is to develop students as professional, self-reflecting individuals able to meet the demands of employers in the construction and the built environment sector and adapt to a constantly changing world. The qualification aims to widen access to higher education and enhance the career prospects of those who undertake it. The course builds underpinning core skills and prepares students for progressing their career in industry or for further specialisation through study at Level 5. Students gain a wide range of sector knowledge tied to practical skills gained in research, self-study, directed study and workplace scenarios. The course is delivered through a blend of lectures, seminars, tutorials, independent study and industry guest speakers. How will I be assessed? The course is assessed through a blend of assignments, presentations, practical tasks and job knowledge tasks. Each subject is awarded a Pass, Merit or Distinction and the combined marks produce the final overall grade of Pass, Merit or Distinction for the course as a whole. Additional Costs Students may be required to purchase their own materials for any specialist projects they undertake as part of the course.
