The Saturday course is designed to equip learners with a number of basic DIY skills to assist in the maintenance of their home, including the following: Carpentry - How to cut and architraves; what sort of screws/nails to use; how to use different fixings on solid/plasterboard walls. Tiling & Grouting - How to cut and fix tiles. Decorating - Cutting and fixing plasterboard. Electrical - Switches and sockets; how to fit an electrical switch; what size fuses to put into plug tops; how to change a light fitting. Plumbing - How to replace a tap washer; how to unblock a sink and waste pipe; how to change a tap The course runs on 4 consecutive Saturdays from 10am to 3.30pm at the college.

This course is ideal for those with little or no experience looking to keep their home in good repair and do all those 'simple' tasks and ultimately save themselves money along the way. The course is designed for the beginner so no previous experience is required.The training will be very hands on, so make sure you are able to comfortable with this.
There is no assessment during the course, however once you have completed the day's session you will receive a college attendance certificate detailing which course you attended and what date.You are expected to be hands on during the class though, actively progressing through the training.
