Functional Skills English Entry Level 1-3

Functional Skills are qualifications in English, maths and ICT that equip learners with the practical skills needed to live, learn and work successfully. We will endeavour to provide all pupils with opportunities to explore their personal interests and to discover and develop ideas about potential careers when they leave school. Our broad curriculum aims to incorporate aspects of a wide range of life skills within the context of our everyday lessons, for example using money and budgeting in numeracy lessons, or learning about food hygiene and healthy eating during our cooking lessons. A ‘Learn to Earn’ culture is embedded and at the forefront of all that we do. ‘Learn to Earn’ provides students with realistic and practical goals in line with their vocational aspirations. Students are provided with opportunities to explore their personal interests and to discover and develop ideas about potential careers when they leave school. Throughout the year links are set up with local businesses so that students experience a wide range of vocational settings. Our ‘Learn To Live’ curriculum focuses on the everyday occupational necessities of life, such as personal care, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, financial management, social independence and relationships to name a few.
