Develop your creative passion.This practical course is suitable for beginners. It will allow you to develop your skills in cake decorating and sugar craft and gain a qualification. It is suitable if you would like to learn how to design and decorate your own celebration cakes, using sugar paste, flower paste, icing and marzipan.

Ideally you will have completed an entry level or beginners type course prior to starting this course. Using English and Maths well is an important part of any study and these subjects will be embedded into your learning. Your skills will be assessed prior to starting a course and there will be opportunities for you to improve these skills if needed.

This course is suitable for anyone who enjoys making cakes, who would like to learn more about decorating them and is thinking about working in this industry as either an employed and self-employed crafts person. It will help you to develop the skills and knowledge required ice and decorate your own cakes with a wide variety of handmade decorations and gain a qualification. This qualification will, enable you to develop basic skills in craft, provide you with underpinning knowledge of the craft process, provide you with a basis for progression into further study in craft-related areas. The objectives of this qualification are to help you to, develop a portfolio of work in craft, use materials, tools and equipment correctly and safely, develop an understanding of health and safety considerations in the craft environment.

This is a practical course. You will learn through teacher demonstration and presentation, independent practical activities, research to develop ideas and knowledge and by producing a range of items.

Your teacher will give you verbal feedback during each lesson and written feedback at regular intervals. Throughout the course you will discuss with your teacher what you want to achieve and record it on your individual learning plan (ILP). You will complete a portfolio of evidence that will be internally assessed by your teacher and checked by an external quality assessor.
