You will analyse substances and work out how and why chemical reactions happen. The course will build upon GCSE Chemistry and explore topics such as Equilibria, Acids/Bases, Aromatics and Periodicity. The knowledge, skills and understanding gained through the study of chemistry opens many career pathways and links to University courses.

Students studying GCSE Combined Science need to have achieved a minimum Grade 6-6. Students studying GCSE Separate Sciences need at least two Grade 6s and a Grade 5 (with one of the 6s being in Chemistry).

The Chemistry department will enter students for the AS qualification as well as the A-level AS – 2 written papers each 1 hour 30 minutes A Level – 3 written papers each 2hours

You could take this course with other advanced level courses such as Biology, Maths, Physics, Geography, or more general subjects that may not relate to the sciences, to prepare for higher education. With further training, you could go into a job related to Chemistry or one of the other sciences such as a Doctor, Nurse, Scientist or Pharmacist. The course will also help you to develop the basic skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for.
