Music Technology is a creative and practical course in which students learn a variety of professional skills and apply them in industry-related projects.What we?ll studyThe modules studied include Sound Recording, Mixing and Mastering, Performing using Technology, Sound for Film, Audio Synthesis and Sampling.Music Technology students have the opportunity to work in excellent, dedicated facilities that include: a specialist Music IT suite, comprising 23 iMacs running Logic, ProTools, Ableton Live and Sibelius; a purpose-built recording studio and industry standard equipment and three separate mixing rooms.Our facilitiesStudents have use of the facilities outside of lesson times and are encouraged to initiate their own projects as well as working on those that form part of the assessed course work.In addition to regular lessons, students are involved in events such as band nights, where they gain valuable experience as performers, lighting or sound technicians, and promoters. Music Technology students also have the opportunity to get involved with college music groups and ensembles as well as college productions.Other enrichment activities include the Musicollegy project, college production, guitar group, chamber choir, orchestra and jazz band.

GCSE grade 4 in English or Maths.The ability to play an instrument or sing would be beneficial although it is not essential. Students must, have a strong interest in music and sound technology.There are a multitude of progression routes available after studying BTEC Music Technology including studio engineering, live sound engineering, post production engineer, mastering engineer, broadcast engineer and lm location recording. For some degree courses, it is also useful to take Physics A Level.

Assessment takes place as an on-going process for each of the units and includes the submission of CD recordings and supporting paperwork. Emphasis is on practical work and there is no formal final written exam.
