2. Who this course is for

The BTEC National Extended Diploma in IT is a two year course which is equivalent to 3 A Levels and is accepted by universities across the country. It is also the ideal course for someone seeking employment in a computing sector. This course is designed to introduce you to a wide range of computing disciplines. You will have the opportunity to develop knowledge of and skills in computer science, computer systems and networks and social media in business, enabling you to progress to further study of the computing sector or other sectors. In the first year you will study a range of units and on successful completion achieve a BTEC Level 3 90 credits Diploma in IT. On successful completion of additional units studied in the second year you will achieve the BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in IT. You will study common core units in Year 1 including: •Communication and Employability Skills •Computer Systems •Information Systems •Software Design and Development •Organisational Systems Security •Computer Networks •Database Design •Maintaining Computer Systems •Spreadsheet Modelling In the second year you will do additional units which will consist of specialist units.

At least 4 GCSEs at grades A*-C / grades 9-4 including maths and English or a BTEC Level 2 Diploma with a merit (or equivalent) including functional skills in English and maths.
