The Isle of Wight College has standard entry requirements for full-time college courses, depending on the level of the course to be studied. There may be additional entry requirements for a small number of specialist courses. If this course is one of these specialist courses, additional entry requirements will be stated below.

There is an applied programme of practical and theory designed to meet your learning styles, directed private study, laboratory practical work, and industrial visits. In addition to technical subjects, personal and interpersonal skills are developed and assessed as an integral part of the course as well as the three Functional Skills, ICT, Maths and English.
Continuous assessment of performance is carried out by means of tests, class and laboratory work and practical assignment workshops. All modules are formally assessed and final grades are subject to moderation by the course team and a representative from BTEC/EAL as applicable.
Successful students can train, for example, as engineering technicians or progress to the colleges advanced level and higher education courses or university degree courses. Career planning and team building is actively encouraged on the Diploma.
