This is an online course delivered using Zoom, in real time with live interaction with your tutor and fellow learners The genre of self-portraiture has a long and varied history. This short introductory course will explore the reasons and methods that artists chose to paint or create sculptures of themselves. Noteworthy examples from modern to contemporary periods will be explored and students will have the opportunity to express their opinions and make comparisons between different artists. Artists discussed will include: Pablo Picasso, Kathe Kollwitz, Lucian Freud, Ana Mendieta, Ron Mueck, Marc Quinn, Antony Gormley and Jenny Saville. During this course you will:- Identify the time periods of selected artists Demonstrate a knowledge of the different reasons for self-portraits Recognise the methods used by selected artists within self-portraits Develop and justify point of view Take part in discussion with other students
