This programme of study is a practical, work related course aimed at teaching you about the employment area you have chosen and developing the skills you will need to start your career or move into Higher Education. You will learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demand. The first year of the course allows you to achieve a Extended Certificate in Applied Science. On successful completion at Merit Level or above you may progress to the second year and complete a Diploma or Extended Diploma in Applied Science. What will I study? A combination of classroom and science laboratory-based lessons, group work, assignments, work experience, and home study.
There will be trips/visits planned during the year. Details of these will be posted to you as part of your induction pack.
The course is assessed via assignments set within the college. There are two examinations during year one for the science units and exams in maths or English should you be re-sitting those.
You can enter employment or apply for Higher Education to study at Level 4 or 5 (HND/Degree)
