What is it like to work in the world of Media? Who are the key players? What does a producer actually do? How do you create a green screen effect? If some of these questions interest you, then this is the course for you. During this course of study we will give you the opportunities to develop hands on practical skills with software and hardware that is often used in real media industries. You will also learn about the practices and processes of media industries by investigating current media companies. The work on the BTEC qualifications in this specification are NCF Level 3 qualifications, designed to provide highly specialist, work-related qualifications in a range of vocational sectors. Each year we discuss with students which of the 70+ media specialisms they want to study and regularly negotiate a bespoke plan for each learner. So, you might be working on a photography unit whilst your friend is studying presenting techniques for broadcasting. The Extended Certificate in Creative Digital Media Production gives learners the knowledge, understanding and skills that they need to prepare for employment in this sector. This course is equivalent to one A level.

GCSE Media or Film Studies at grade 4 or BTEC Level 2 in Creative Digital Media Production at Merit. In exceptional circumstances, students who have not previously studied these subjects may be admitted IF they show a particular aptitude and enthusiasm for the subject.

You will have to study three compulsory units and a choice from a wide range of optional units. In the compulsory units you will learn how to plan effectively in order to produce a media event or artefact. The optional units will be chosen from a broad range and include subjects such as film production and digital games production.

Researching and analysing music videos, planning your own video before filming and sound recording then editing using post-production techniques to create your own personal product. The coursework unit assessment activities may be a combination of written, audio, visual media as well as through presentations and observations of practical activities.

50% will be coursework units assessed internally and the other 50% is externally assessed under exam conditions. Unit 1 - an on-screen examination. It will last two hours and will consist of short and long answer questions. Unit 8 - a task consisting of a Part A and a Part B. Part A will provide learners with a commission for a media production. to complete assessment tasks in Part B. Part B is a task completed in 5 hours under supervised conditions.

Some students will go directly into work in entry level positions in media industries and others will continue on to further specialised study such as a specialised degree in creative media/ media studies, combined degree with media as the major or subsidiary component, further training or industry employment. Students will be given the opportunities to develop their own personal and bespoke show reel of work that will benefit differentiate themselves from the masses of other students.
