Before applying please be advised that this course has a minimum entry requirement of at least a grade C/4 in both GCSE English and Maths. A Level 2 qualification maybe considered providing the University will accept this. Learners must also be over the age of 19. The Access to Higher Education (HE) Diploma is a Level 3 qualification which prepare students to study at degree level. If you would like to go to university but left school without the qualifications you need, then an Access to HE Midwifery course could be for you. The Access to Higher Education Diploma (Midwifery) is a Level 3 qualification which prepares people to study for a Midwifery or Health related degree in the future. It is designed for adults seeking a change of direction because of unemployment or lack of career. The Diplomas are validated by Cambridge Access Validating Agency (CAVA) and are recognised by the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) for Higher Education. Learners offered a place on the Access programme will take Subject Specific Modules alongside Academic Study Skills with an additional tutorial each week making a total of 12 hours contact time. A possible 15 hours independent study time per week may be necessary. The programme is fast moving, exciting and demanding with rigorous assessment. It is also highly rewarding and offers a great opportunity to succeed. When applying for an Access course you are entitled to apply for a Government Loan to cover the cost, this will be written off if you proceed to a Degree programme.

UK applicants must be 19 years old or over to apply and should have attained GCSEs in maths and English at grade C/4 or above (or qualifications which are recognised in the UK as equivalent to GCSE qualifications or above). Applicants must demonstrate knowledge and interest in Health Care and Nursing.

The qualification has a credit value of 60 credits. It is a Level 3 qualification, although some units within it may be set at Level 2. You will study 15 Credits in Academic Study Skills, 24 Credits in Human Biology, 9 Credits in Nursing Studies and 15 credits in Health Studies. An example of units are The Role of the Nurse, Becoming a Reflective Practitioner, Health and Illness, Dementia Care. Academic Study Skills include HE Study Skills, Research Skills and Maths in a Nursing Context.
