The Isle of Wight College has standard entry requirements for full-time college courses, depending on the level of the course to be studied.
On the Level 2 course you will gain a wide range of skills including how to: Design and conduct training/exercise sessions for a variety of age groups how to conduct consultations, inductions and facility walk-through’s how to instruct a variety of exercise sessions anatomy and physiology covering the heart and circulatory system, the respiratory system, structure and function of the skeleton, musculoskeletal system, postural and core stability, the nervous and energy systems and their relation to exercise Identify personal development opportunities in football including administration and officiating. Promote and establish working relationships between players, coaches, parents and officials. Safely organise and supervise activities Understand different aspects of coaching employment law, industry specific legislation and procedures that apply to their jobs an understanding of the Principles of Customer Service and maximising the Customer experience
The Intermediate Football Coaching Programme is run in conjunction with Portsmouth In The Community. The programme will cover theoretical and practical aspects of sport coaching and fitness, and develop your understanding of the leisure industry. You will also have the chance to develop practical coaching experience by assisting with community football programmes run by Portsmouth across the Island.
All full time students pay a resource fee plus approx. £200 for a Portsmouth In The Community Kit Pack which all learners who are part of the football squads are required to purchase.
You will be assessed by a mixture of written projects and assignments and practical assessment. You will also be required to pass a practical gym coaching session.
Students who successfully complete this course and who also have GCSE Maths and English at C (Grade 4) or above can progress onto the Level 3 Football Coaching Programme at the College, or other sport and fitness related courses, employment or apprenticeships. Successful students could also progress into entry-level employment in the leisure or football industries, and could play a substantial role in community football coaching.
