Five GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including English Language and Mathematics or Science or a Level 1 qualification and a willingness to work in all conditions. Previous employment with animals will help your application. You must also have evidence of a recent tetanus vaccination.
You will be assessed by exams for a few units, as well as coursework for the remainder of the units. This will include tasks such as fact sheets, posters, reports and practical animal husbandry tasks. Coursework includes producing written assignments and projects. You will also undertake practical work in the College Animal Unit and offsite at an equine establishment.
You may wish to go on to the Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Animal Management or go straight into employment. You may find employment at your work experience placements. You may also undertake further training whilst employed as a veterinary nurse, a dog groomer, in kennel management or in pet shop management. You must achieve a Distinction overall to move onto Level 3 Animal Management.
