2. Course description
"The BSc (Hons) programme is a level 6 programme and is designed to top up an existing relevant level 5 qualification to a full degree qualification and provide a solid grounding to practice successfully as a construction manager. The programme is underpinned by three main themes:• Design• Management• Interdisciplinary Professional Practice The themes were broadly developed in conjunction with employer needs and underpinning academic theory and serve to provide a construction specific programme. The design element of the programme encompasses a broad knowledge of design technology and its practical application to enable decision making concerning design, the selection of functional elements and the national and economic use of resources.The management element encompasses the acquisition of a rounded, as well as detailed knowledge of the technology/design process and the management of the site production process. It identifies the key external and internal factors affecting the performance of a construction organisation by the use of analytical and implementation tools and procedures to prepare competitive action plans. The interdisciplinary professional practice element of the programme takes into consideration essential aspects of the industry such as health and safety, aspects of contract law and project management skills.The themes form the core element of the programme and together they provide the basis for an academically challenging and industry relevant qualification. 3. Entry requirements
"Since this is a top up degree, applicants will usually have successfully completed the Foundation Degree (Science) Construction (or other equivalent level 5 programme) to enter the top up programme as a progression route. You may also be able to gain entry to the top up programme at Level 6 based on advanced standing or the evidence of other certified qualifications or experiential learning. In this case, Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) or Accreditation of Prior Certified Learning (APCL) may be possible.
