2. Course description

Over the two years you will study 11 films in total and include the study of areas such as Silent Cinema, Documentary Film, Experimental film as well as cover a range of films from different time periods and countries of origin. For each of these films, you will study three core study areas. There are also six specialist study areas which you are required to study in relation to specific films only.

3. Entry requirements

At least 5 GCSEs at Level 5 or above, including GCSE English Language at Level 5, but candidates will be
considered on an individual basis. Please note that although GCSE Film will be useful, it is not a requirement to do this course.

5. Assessment method

The course is divided into three components.
Component 1: Varieties of Film and Film Making (Exam, 35%) – externally assessed
Component 2: Global Film Perspectives (Exam, 35%) – externally assessed
Component 3: Production (Coursework, 30%) – internally assessed and externally moderated
For the Component 3, you will have a choice between making a short film or writing a screenplay and completing a 20-frame digital storyboard. An evaluation of 1600-1800 words will also accompany the production
