2. Course description

This course combines all 3 Science disciplines and is assessed through a combination of coursework and exam units (minimum 40%). It is available as a single A level equivalent as well as a double A Level equivalent which allows for specialisation. It prepares students for careers including:Electronic Engineering, Forensic Science, Nursing, Mechanical Engineering, Medicine, Biochemical Science, Environmental Chemistry, Paramedic Science, Criminology and Computing. The Science courses are designed to provide academic and vocational experiences. They will prepare students for their choice of career in both the world of work and university courses. You will complete three mandatory units: Unit 1 Principles and Applications of Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics), Unit 2 Practical Scientific Techniques, Unit 3 Science Investigation Skills. A minimum of 40% of the course is externally assessed within units 1 and 3 in the form of an externally assessed exam and practical assessment. Unit 2 allows students to develop practical skills such as calibration, chromatography, calorimetry and laboratory safety and is assessed through internally moderated assessments.
