2. Course description
If you believe you have the skills, qualities and attributes needed to join either one of the armed forces or one of the emergency services, then this course will prepare you for the discipline and hard work needed in these demanding careers. You need to be focused, determined, self-disciplined, hard working and ready for a challenge. As preparation for a career in the public services, we ask that you wear a uniform while studying with us. This course, which is the equivalent to 1 A Level if you achieve a distinction grade, mixes classroom work with practical tasks and challenges. You will also get the opportunity to take part in organised outdoor activities to test your endurance levels, how you operate under pressure, as well as helping you to develop practical skills such as map reading and navigation. The course covers the following subjects: - leadership and team work - aspects of government policy - crime and its affects on society - health and fitness - discipline within the public services - land navigation - responding and planning for emergency incidents We do ask that you meet the costs of the uniform required on this course which is around 140.00, plus the costs of the programme of outdoor activities which is around 215.00.
3. Entry requirements
You will need 4 GCSEs at A to C grade, including Maths, English and, ideally, Double Science. We would also encourage you to apply if you do not have the Double Science GCSE but have other good GCSE grades.

5. Assessment method
You will deliver written assignments throughout the course - which is a mixture of essays and online tasks. You will also be observed and appraised by your tutors and peers particularly in relation to practical tasks. There is no final exam at the end of this course. You can achieve a pass, merit or distinction on this course.
