Brighton’s thriving film and digital scene provides the perfect backdrop from which to develop skills and knowledge aligned to industry practices. You will learn through practical projects using professional cameras and editing facilities, backed up with theory and critical analysis; all of which are essential to entering the world of TV, video and film industries. You have the opportunity to complete the UAL Diploma in the first year and then the Extended Diploma in the second year. Year 1 is a continuation of your practical learning leading to the Extended Diploma in Year 2, where you will specialise in your chosen area of this exciting and dynamic industry.

To start at this level you need at least four GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above, including English, maths and a creative subject. You will need to show your interest in filmmaking. An interview with a course tutor will be required prior to enrolment.
You will learn through practical projects using professional cameras and editing facilities, backed up with theory and critical analysis; all of which are essential to entering the world of TV, video and film industries. Industry-based projects and work experience opportunities are part of each course curriculum, enabling you to develop the skills to progress to a career in the creative industries with the confidence to thrive.
You may be required to purchase some basic materials to support your learning e.g. note pad and pens. There may be some trips planned in the year which may incur incidental costs. You may wish to purchase resources appropriate to the presentation of your work especially for the final major project and final show such as presentation materials, structures or props.
On successful completion of the first year, you will achieve a UAL Diploma, after which you can progress to the second year Extended Diploma course.
On successful completion of the second year (Extended Diploma), you can move on to related university degree courses. This course provides a sound underpinning of practical and theoretical skills to build a portfolio and progress to university, employment or an apprenticeship.
