You'll need a minimum of four or more high grades at GCSE in subjects relevant to the course you�d like to study, including maths and/or English Language at grade 4 or above. Alternatively, you�ll need a Level 2 Diploma with overall Merit in a relevant subject and maths and English at appropriate levels.

This course will provide you with basic skills and knowledge to continue your learning in bricklaying. This will help you develop the high-level skills you will need in the workplace or if you choose to progress to an advanced apprenticeship or higher education course. You will develop advanced practical skills and learn about advanced issues relating to construction including working safely, communication skills and building methods and construction technology to enable you to progress to employment. As part of your study programme here at the College alongside your chosen course you will complete a maths and/or English qualification if you have not already achieved a grade 4 or above. (This will be a GCSE for all students with a grade 3). The study programme will also incorporate a range of work related experience activities to ensure that you have the breadth of skills required to progress to further/higher education, employment or an apprenticeship.

As part of your course, you will visit construction companies to find out more about real-life construction in a range of settings. There may also be opportunities to undertake work experience as part of the course.

You will be assessed by the use of practical assessments and assignments that will form a portfolio of your work. You will also complete practical and theory tests at the end of your training course.

Having completed the course, you will be well prepared to move into employment with construction companies, including becoming an advanced apprentice. Here, you would work on site for four days per week but continue your learning at College one day a week. You could also progress to a higher level qualification in construction site management.
