Who is this qualification for? This qualification is aimed at you if you, if you are looking to start a career in the building services industry. This qualification is suitable for anyone from 16 years old or over. There are no formal entry requirements for anyone wishing to take this qualification. What does this qualification cover? This qualification covers a very wide range of skills and knowledge required for preparing to work in building services industry. It will give learners a taste of the four areas of building services, which are electrical, plumbing, refrigeration and air-conditioning and heating and ventilating. In order to complete the qualification the following topics are all compulsory: • understand how to apply scientific principles • understand how to apply environmental protection measures within BSE • understand and carry out safe working practices in building services engineering • understand and demonstrate fundamental plumbing operations • understand and demonstrate fundamental heating and ventilating operations • understand and demonstrate fundamental refrigeration and air conditioning operations • understand and demonstrate fundamental electrical installation operations • understand the roles, responsibilities and procedures within building services engineering.

Four GCSEs Grade C or above, including maths and English at Grade C (4). It is expected that the applicant will have a genuine interest in the industry and each applicant will be required to attend an interview to ascertain his/her suitability for the course as well as take a short aptitude test.
